Founder of The Lake District Lobster & Seafood Co. Chris Saunders says that Irish Sea King Scallops are big and juicy because there are far fewer boats out in the Irish Sea from Morecombe Bay to The Isle of Man so they are free to grow bigger and better.
1kg of scallops will give you approx. 20 - 35 scallops, and 3 scallops per person is a recommended portion. So 1kg serves 6-10 people, 500kg serves 3-5 people. Scallops freeze well and are a quick easy meal so it’s never a problem to find you have too many!
A local Ulverston lad, Chris has been fishing the Irish Sea for years before starting The Lake District Lobster & Seafood Co. supplying the finest restaurants in the area. His Irish Sea King scallops are from either his boat or 3 other day boats that he has always known and trusted.
His King scallops are always in demand because they have the finest, sweetest flavour of all. Scallop meat is made up of two parts, the scallop meat and the crescent shaped, bright orange roe. Both parts are delicious - simply pan fry with a little oil or butter for 4-5 minutes turning them over half way through.
