Sandy’s objective is not to conquer the mass market, but to secure a reputation for providing high-quality wines for the enjoyment of her guests and visitors.
Welcome to the idyllic surroundings of Aldwick Estate, set in the beautiful green meadows and rolling hills of the Yeo River Valley, home to the Watts family for five generations.
The farm, dating as far back as the 17th century when it first operated as a dairy farm, produces some of the finest, internationally recognised wine in England.
It was Chris Watts who first dipped his toe into the complexities of wine production after a trip to South Africa inspired him to convert a small patch of Somerset into a vineyard.
From these small beginnings, Sandy (Chris's sister) really picked up the pace when she took up the reigns of Aldwick Estate in 2011.
With the help of an under vine cultivator (posh wine plough), compost from a local chicken farm and the help of her trusted advisor Elizabeth Laver, now Aldwick's Vineyard Manager, Sandy has turned Aldwick Estate into the largest vineyard in Somerset, accorded with many internationally recognised awards and accolades.
Unlike many wine producers, Aldwick Estate only use grapes that are solely produced on the farm, which guarantees a truly authentic English wine!
The wines that have received most recognition from the International wine community are the Aldwick Jubilate, Buteo, Bacchus and especially the Mary’s Rosé, which is named after Sandy’s mother.
A must for anyone visiting the Somerset area is joining Sandy on one of her Vineyard Tours, where you can take in the beautiful surroundings of Aldwick Estate and taste some of the delicious award-winning wines. A new Tasting Room has enabled the extension of the current programme of vineyard tours.
Sandy’s objective is not to conquer the mass market, but to secure a reputation for providing high quality wines for the enjoyment of her guests and visitors.
2017 heralds the release of the first Aldwick red wine and the 2014 Jubilate Sparking Rosé, both made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes.
