Meet the 'Days' - Paul, Maria, Samantha, Harry, Elizabeth and Emily a first-generation farming family who care about nature, their animals and their community.
Paul Day at Bramblebee Farm works with nature to produce the very best Aberdeen Angus Beef. Along with other hardy native breeds, Shorthorn & Hereford, they are completely grass fed, grazing his own meadows full of legumes and herbs, as well as the RSPB wetlands where they help to create the perfect habitat for all things natural.
Aberdeen Angus Beef is famous in Britain because the marbling that evenly runs through the meat gives the beef its renowned rich and indulgent flavour. Paul believes that it is the quality of his grass that makes his Aberdeen Angus such high quality. Paul says, “It is from great grass that great beef is produced…..we are proud to grow residue-free grasslands full of legumes and herbs, combine that with our traditional cattle breeds and good stock bulls, together this allows us to produce top-tasting beef.”
The Day’s grow their own wheat and barley at Bramblebee Farm producing their own animal feed, making them more self sufficient and sustainable.
They also raise Old Spot pigs, a famous slow-growing breed, reared their whole life outdoors in small family groups, they thrive on low protein feed, home grown vegetables that would otherwise be wasted, enjoying a happy outdoor stress free life for almost 12 months longer than a commercial pig.
Both Aberdeen Angus cattle and Old Spot pigs boast a slightly higher fat level, which bates the meat whilst cooking, and this is what makes Bramblebee Farm Aberdeen Angus Beef and Old Spot pork taste like they used to taste, full of mouth-watering flavours.
Paul's son Burt, now raises Bramblebee Farm's lambs, hoggets, and mutton. He keeps a mix of breeds from Herdwick, Soay, Jacobs, but his flock mostly consists of Texel ewes that have been on the farm for years. The lambs, hogget and mutton graze on their own grass lays of either old grass meadows or clover-based lays.
Bramblebee Farm really is a family business, with Paul’s wife Maria being head veterinary nurse in charge of the health care of all the farm animals, son Burt rears their small flock of sheep, and daughter Elizabeth likes to feed the animals and adopt any animal she finds even if it's not a farm animal!
All Bramblebee Farm heritage breed meats are delivered in their recyclable packaging, and are hung and butchered in their own small butchers shop on the farm for provenance and full traceability.
